Easy to use and cost effective.
I was given a packet of Strip Wash (non scented) to review.
Cost: Assuming one strip per wash, each wash costs £6.99/24 = 29p. Violets laundry power, 40 washes/1kg for £15, has a cost of 37p per wash, while BioD’s laundry power, 11(90g) washes/1kg for £5, has a cost of 45p per wash. (All assuming regular loads).
Cleaning: I tried the strips on a muck wash (period pads), children’s wash, dark wash and a knickers wash (3 small girls means a lot of knickers). I found the cleaning to be good on all of these. The strips foam up well, and I didn’t need to add extra strips. The bigger stains faded but didn’t come clean, and would likely need pre treatment, as with all detergents. There was no residue on the dark wash, rinsing working well on all the washes. The laundry smelt nice and neutral after the wash, other ‘scent free’ detergents often have a chemical smell afterwards.
Ease of use: there is no powder mess to worry about, and adjusting the amount of detergent is very easy: just add another half strip. The packet takes much less shelf space than a powder container.
Summary: very easy to use and adjust the amount of detergent. Cost effective. Cleaning was good on a range of different washes. Stains may need extra pre treatment, as with other detergents. I’ll be using these for all my laundry in future.
